Abstract
In this study, the effect of adsorption of two and three boron atoms as well as B₁₀ and B₁₂ clusters on the structure and properties of monolayer and bilayer graphene has been investigated. The results show that the adsorption of these clusters particularly B₂ on monolayer graphene and B₁₂ both on monolayer and between bilayer graphene—induces magnetic properties in the structure. The adsorption of boron clusters also leads to significant changes in the electronic properties of graphene, including the opening of a band gap and alterations in spin characteristics. Most of the adsorption processes occur chemically; however, the adsorption of B₁₂ on monolayer graphene is physical in nature and is with weaker bond. These findings highlight the high potential of boron clusters for engineering the properties of graphene in future electronic and spintronic applications.
